To demonstrate the construction of a simple molecule using single bonds, building a water molecule seems like a good way to start.

Start with 6 white sonobe units, and 12 red sonobe units. Assemble the three of the white units into each of two hydrogen atoms with single bond units attached. Add three red sonobe units to each hydrogen atom by attaching them to the other end of the bond units. Assemble the remaining red sonobe units into a pair of open three unit parts as shown.
